4 UNESCO World Heritage Sites to Visit in North Italy
North Italy is filled with a diversity of beautiful landscapes and national wonders. So-much-so there are many places have been named as a UNESCO World Heritage site – reaffirming the cultural, scientific and educational significance of each place. Luckily for our Albergo Miramonti guests, a number of these are accessible from our award-winning hotel. So, we thought we would introduce to you 4 UNESCO sites that you should visit during your stay with us – what makes it even better they’re all a within a few hours away of our alpine hotel.
What is UNESCO?

Before we take a look at these beautiful places – you’re probably wondering: what exactly is a UNESCO World Heritage site? Well, UNESCO is a United Educational, Scientific, Cultural Organisation. They believe that ‘since war begins at the minds of men and women in power, it is the minds of men and women that peace defences must be constructed’. So they aim to strengthen the bonds between nations and improve the moral solidarity of humanity, by helping countries adopt international standards and manages programmes that foster a free flow of ideas and knowledge sharing.
The Dolomites
“THE MOST ATTRACTIVE MOUNTAIN LANDSCAPES IN THE WORLD”
When people think of the Italian Alps, The Dolomites often spring to mind. They’re widely recognised as being the most attractive mountain landscapes in the world! Totalling at 18 peaks, rising above 3,000 metres – the tallest being the Punta Penia. It’s a great place for you to visit as there is an endless list of things-to-do while your there. You can explore the hiking trails, go mountain biking or wander around the towns and soak up a bit of Northern Italian Culture. Check out the Dolomites website to plan your visit.
Rhaetian Railway
“THE WORLD’S MOST BEAUTIFUL RAILWAY”
Built-in the 1900s, the Rhaetian Railway was awarded a UNESCO World Heritage status due to it’s ‘outstanding technical, architectural and environmental ensemble’. It’s shared between Italy and Switzerland – as the home to two historic and scenic railway lines. You can catch a glimpse of the work of master civil engineers by hopping on the Bernina Express. Verona
‘ROMANESQUE, MIDDLE-AGE AND RENAISSANCE PAST SCATTERED THROUGHOUT THE CITY”
Verona is famously known as the home to two star-crossed lovers – Romeo and Juliet. Although the city has an undeniable romantic aura – it’s also full of history and culture. With elements representing 2,000 years of history – from Romanesque, Middle-age and Renaissance past scattered throughout the city. You can have a wander around the city and see which ruins you spot and there are plenty of quaint Italian cafés for you to take a break in while on your adventure. The city of romance is located just 2 hours away from our hotel.
Naquane National Park of Rock Engravings
“DRAWINGS STRETCH OVER A PERIOD OF 8,000 YEARS”
The UNESCO park of rock engravings is found in Capo di Ponte – located only 30 minutes away from our hotel. It’s a significant part of the Corteno Golgi culture as it’s drawings stretch over a period of 8,000 years – back to prehistoric times. It’s luckily still around today due to the continuous monitoring, restoration and control of the park. It’s the perfect place to take a stroll or a bike ride – with signs leading the way.
Our hotel truly is surrounded by many amazing sights – ones of which you won’t see anywhere else.
