Winter Clothes Guide for the Italian Alps

The travel schedule is set, and you’re now getting ready to embark your exciting winter journey to the Italian Alps. But before you do, you should decide on what you’re going to wear for the next few days (or weeks) on the icy-cold mountains. It’s essential that during your winter getaway, you keep warm and comfortable for all the activities you intend to do, whether it’s skiing, sightseeing or hiking in the Alps. And as an Alpine Hotel, we have to admit, the temperatures drop considerably and you definitely need to consider what you’re going to wear. To make your decision-making process easier, we have listed down a basic guide on the essential clothing you should bring with you to the Italian Alps:

BOOTS

We are a strong advocate for ‘less is more’, and packing footwear for a holiday is no exception. Ideally, you should bring a sturdy pair of boots to accompany you while hiking up the mountains or even exploring local Italian towns. During winter, the ground is significantly slippery and wet, and therefore could be a hazard when you’re walking around. So even if you don’t decide to go hiking, it’s still worth wearing boots over regular shoes or sneakers. Great reasons why you should opt to wear boots that it’ll keep your feet dry, match any outfit and can allow you to walk for hours.

EXTRA LAYERS

When you’re choosing garments of clothing, you don’t necessarily have to pack bulky sweaters as long as you know how to layer it. For example, you may decide to wear a t-shirt, then over it, a lightweight sweater, then a coat. This may help keep your luggage weight lighter, and if you can, try to bring garments that you’re able to use more than once. For example, try bringing a pair of black jeans or trousers, these pieces of clothing can be worn more than once, allowing you to save more space in your baggage.

WATERPROOFS

With snow falling around the mountains, you’re bound to get wet from the weather conditions. To tackle this, you should bring waterproofs such as jackets, coats, umbrellas, etc. We suggest that when you’re choosing a waterproof jacket, opt for something a bit longer so that it covers your body. And if you can choose something with a down-filled coat, it will give you that extra needed warmth.

WARM ACCESSORIES

On top of the garments of clothing you’re bringing, you should also add on a scarf, gloves and perhaps a woolly hat - and voila, you should be warm enough to withstand the cold weather. These accessories are considerably small and easy to bring with you throughout your travels and can give you that extra top-up of warmth.
