Travelling to the Italian Alps: Packing Clothes for Autumn

Now that the warm, summer months are over, it’s time to pack appropriately for the cooler months of autumn. Without a doubt, Italy in the Autumn is beautiful - near Albergo Miramonti, the mountains are adorned with the hues of ochre and reds, along with the plethora of festivals and local stalls that pop-up to sell their fall-exclusive produce. We’re not surprised that many people love to travel to the Alps during this time as there are many Activities in the Autumn! But before you travel, you need to be aware it is going much colder with more frequent rainfall. So, to make your life easier, we have compiled a list clothing that you should bring.

Waterproofs

While rain does not often occur in summer, you should expect more rainfall in the autumn. According to statistics, there is an average of about 945 millimetres of precipitation that occurs in the months of October to November. Therefore, you should be prepared with whatever weather mother nature throws at you! Bring waterproofs like a rain jacket with a hood - this will ensure if it rains, you won’t be drenched by the rain.

Sweater

Generally, if you are travelling to Europe in the fall, layering is the best way to go. One of the best garments to layer, while also keeping you warm, is a sweater. At the start of fall, you may decide to wear lighter, cashmere sweaters that are ultra-soft and comfortable. However, once it starts nearing to December, it is best if you switch to heavier, thicker sweaters. So, decide what kind of sweater is best for you! Sweaters are definitely an autumn staple, so we suggest you pack several sweaters in your luggage to ensure that you have enough to last you your whole trip.

Sturdy Shoes

Boots are another definite staple for autumn. Maybe in the summer, you may only need boots for hiking activities. However, we suggest that you should wear boots for nearly all occasions if you are travelling in the fall. Not only will it keep your feet and ankles warm, but it can withstand damp ground. Especially if you are looking to forage porcini mushrooms or finding chestnuts in the Alpine forests, it will keep your feet clean from the soil.

Jeans or Trousers

This is quite an obvious recommendation. However, there may be a few of you that are still considering to wear shorts or skirts! Jeans or trousers are the ideal piece of garments that you should wear as they insulate your legs from the chilly weather. But, if you do decide to wear shorts or skirts, do wear warm tights.
